About Calais:

Opened to the public since September 2008, our boutique winery is located in the Deep Ellum neighborhood on the corner of Commerce and Walton. It is the first winery located in the area, created by Benjamin CALAIS, owner and winemaker at CALAIS winery.

Benjamin comes from a non-traditional winemaking background, as he was previously an executive for an IT company when he was transferred from France to Plano, TX. Long time passionate about wine and working closely with French winemakers, Benjamin decided upon leaving this IT company to dedicate his time and efforts on producing quality wines here in Dallas, TX.

Three wines are currently released, a Bordeaux “Claret style” blend, an unoaked Chardonnay and a Cabernet / Syrah blend. The traditional European blend is inspiring our work at CALAIS winery and we adapt our techniques to best serve the taste of our local customers. We plan to expand our winemaking facility and equipment in order to produce a greater number of wines.

The first three wines are named after the Deep Ellum streets surrounding the winery: Elm, Main and Commerce. All the wines have a double Influence coming from both France, the birth country of the owner, and the United States. The winery released its first wine in October 20008.
